Gordon F. Getz, Sr.

Whitehouse Station, NJ- Gordon F. Getz, Sr., 86, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Richard and Carrie (Carlise) Getz, he resided in Somerset from 1962 until settling to Whitehouse Station in 2007.

Gordon was a graduate of Loyola College in Maryland where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He faithfully served his country with the United States Navy from 1944-1946. Gordon was a financial officer for Brown Brothers Harriman and Company in New York, NY, retiring in 1990. He had also worked for Olin Corporation. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges. Since 1970, Gordon was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society; and the Ol’ Pals Quartet since 1975. Since 1946, Gordon was an avid golfer. His true passion came from time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his grandson Ryan Coleman and five siblings, Ruth, Richard, Jr., Neil, Ann and Martin.

Gordon is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Eleanor (Rossbach) Getz, with whom he joined hands in marriage on August 28, 1948; eight loving children, Gordon F. Getz, Jr. and wife Josephine of Franklin, TN, Robert and Dawn Getz, Jane Soffer, Clare and Bill Horvath, Andrew and Barbara Getz, Mary and Roger Coleman, John and Joann Getz and Philip and Alissa Getz, all of New Jersey and by his sister Joan. He will be deeply missed by twenty cherished grandchildren and eight adored great grandchildren with one on the way.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Countryside Funeral Home, 724 Route 202 North, Three Bridges, NJ 08887 on Friday, March 30 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, March 31 from 8:45 a.m. until 9:15 a.m.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 31 beginning 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Three Bridges. Gordon will be entombed in the mausoleum at Clover Leaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge. Memorial contributions may be made in Gordon’s name to the Covenant House, 460 West 41st Street, New York, NY 10036 or NJ Right to Life, 113 North Avenue, Cranford, NJ 07016.
